Goodwell, Okla. -- Oklahoma Panhandle State basketball players Jasmine Williams and Will Stephenson have played extremely well this season and both are prominently mentioned in the final regular season Heartland Conference statistics.
Stephenson, a splendid 6’6 athlete from Chicago, came up big for the Aggies all year. This season, the senior won the conference scoring crown with a 20.7 average. He was also the co-leader in rebounding with 8.7 rebounds per game (tying with Robert Harris of the University of Texas-Permian Basin).
In addition, Stephenson finished ever so close to the league title in blocked shots. In that category, Jerante Morgan of Texas A&M International led the way with 1.8 blocks per game and Stephenson finished a closed second with 1.69 per game. He was named the Heartland Player of the Week twice during the season.
As the season progressed, the 6’1 Williams established herself as perhaps the league’s most formidable inside player. She won the Heartland rebounding title with 8.8 boards per game. Three times named the conference Player of the Week, she finished fourth in scoring with a 14.7 average.
Williams is a junior (from Phoenix) and she and the rest of the Lady Aggies will be in action this Friday against St. Mary’s at the Heartland Conference Tournament in Denton, Texas.
