- by Scott Puryear of OPSU Sports on 02/21/2007
Goodwell, Okla. - For the second time this season, Oklahoma Panhandle State University basketball player LaChawn Anderson has been named a Heartland Conference Player of the Week.
Anderson, the league’s leading scorer, has hit for 38, 21, 27, 28, and 35 points in his last five outings. In OPSU’s only game last week, the 6’4 junior drilled in 35 points (including six three-pointers), pulled down 12 rebounds and came up with four steals while raising his scoring average to 17.6.
Anderson and the rest of the Aggies will be in action on their home court on Thursday night against St. Mary’s University and they’ll be striving for a spot in the Heartland Conference play-offs.
The Lady Aggies will also be in action against St. Mary’s, and though they are out of playoff contention, they are still quite capable of lighting up the scoreboard. On the season in NCAA Division II women’s college basketball, the Lady Aggies rank #14 in points. Guards Megan Hamilton and Sarah Polson each rank in the top 50 players in the country in three point shots made.
The women’s game gets started at 6:00 and the men will go at approximately 8:00.
