Aggies Drop Home Opener to WT, 77-67
by Scott Puryear of Aggie Sports on 11/15/05
Goodwell, OK – It was as expected – a tough,
hard fought game between Oklahoma Panhandle State University
and West Texas A&M here on Tuesday. As always seems
to be the case between the two teams, it was a great battle,
but this time WT prevailed 77-67.
It was the first game of the season for both teams, and
WT led by only seven points (34-27) at the end of the first
The Aggies came out fast in the second half. They cut
the deficit to three points (36-33) on a short jumper by
Eddie Moss with just under 18 minutes left in the game.
However, WT went on a strong run and increased their lead
Down by a dozen points with ten minutes to go, the Aggies
refused to go quietly and went on a courageous 16-4 run
to tie the game at 55-55 with just over six minutes left.
The last three points of that run came on a three point
bomb by Nick Malinowski that brought the crowd to their
feet. Though the Aggies kept fighting to the end, WT held
on for the 77-67 win, mostly due to their clutch free throw
shooting down the stretch.
The only statistics in the game that were not reasonably
close were in free throws (WT made ten more than did the
Aggies) and in bench points, where WT scored 41 to OPSU’s
Malinowski led the Aggies with 19 points and ten rebounds.
Juan Carson and Moss each knocked down 15.
WT was paced by Damien Lolar with 23 and Ronnie Holmes
with 14 including 10 for 10 shooting from the free throw
This year’s Aggies have plenty of heart, and those
attending their games will enjoy watching the team play.
