Goodwell, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State men’s basketball team did not pick a pleasant place to play on Saturday night – in Tulsa against Oral Roberts University, a team that had upset #3 Kansas just ten days earlier. With a 55-point second half, the Golden Eagles put away the Aggies 91-41.
There is no quit in this year’s OPSU team and they did not back away from their tough opponent, who last week received votes as a Division I Top 25 team. It was a reasonably even game through most of the first half and Fred Durr’s jumper gave the Aggies a 15-14 lead with 7:51 remaining. However, the Golden Eagles closed the half with a 21-8 run and held a 36-22 halftime advantage.
For the game, five Golden Eagles scored in double figures, led by Marchello Veally’s 19 points.
Junior forward LaChawn Anderson led the Aggies with 14 points, five rebounds and four steals. Durr added 11 points.
The Aggies will stay on the road and travel to San Angelo, Texas for a Monday night game with Angelo State.
