Goodwell, OK - After a heartbreaking overtime loss (79-77)
on the night before to South Dakota, the Oklahoma Panhandle
State men’s basketball team went up against the University
of Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday Night. It was the second round
of the Marriot Classic in Omaha and UN-O won the contest 68-48.
The Aggies had the lead three times in the opening half, and
a three-pointer by OPSU guard Kyle Smith tied the score at
19-19. However, UN-O got hot from three point range and scored
18 unanswered points to take a 37-19 advantage.
The Aggies scored the final five points of the first half,
and the teams went to the intermission with UN-O leading 37-24.
OPSU, working to improve on their first half shooting, were
game for a run and closed the gap to ten (42-32) on an Eddie
Moss three point shot with just over 17 minutes to play. However,
that was as close as they would get as UN-O shot 50% in the
second half and pulled away for the 68-48 victory and raised
their record to 4-4.
OPSU (0-5) was led by Smith’s 11
points, Moss scored 10 and Nick Malinowski scored eight.
Juan Carson scored seven and had five rebounds.
The Aggies will travel to Bolivar, Missouri for a Tuesday
night game with Southwest Baptist. They will then get a much
deserved week off before they return to their home court for
a rematch with Southwest Baptist on December 6th.
