Strong Second Half Sends ENM Past Aggies
- by Scott Puryear of Aggie Sports on 12/06/06
Goodwell, Okla. — Though it was a tight battle for the entire first half, Eastern New Mexico caught fire in the second half and defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State, 81-53, here on Tuesday.
The score was tied 30-30 with just over a minute remaining in the first half, but ENM took the lead 39-32 at the break, thanks in great measure to a buzzer beating shot by Tristan Largent that was launched from well behind the half-court line.
In the second half, ENM scored 42 points to OPSU’s 21 to even their record at 4-4 while the Aggies fell to 1-7.
Will Stephenson led the Aggies in both scoring and rebounding as the high flying junior scored 19 and pulled down seven boards. Fred Durr and E. J. Ollison each scored eight for OPSU and Stephenson had a game high three blocked shots. Luke Ogden scored seven points and pulled down six rebounds.
The Aggies will take some time off for finals before heading to Denver on December 16 to face Johnson & Wales.
