Aggies Fight Their Way to Fourth Win, 78-70
- by Scott Puryear of OPSU Sports on 12/10/07
Goodwell, Okla. - Ten different Oklahoma Panhandle State players scored on Saturday night as the Aggies topped Johnson & Wales 78-70. The victory was the third straight for the Aggies and upped their season record to 4-2.
The Aggies were in control for nearly the entire game and opened leads by as many as 23 points in the first half and 20 in the second half. However, a pesky Johnson & Wales team just would not go away and got as close as six points more than once in the closing minutes.
OPSU held a 43-27 advantage at the halftime break.
Will Stephenson led the way for the Aggies with 22 points (two above his season average) and Basil Laslie canned 19. LaChawn Anderson scored 14, Fred Durr hit ten and the hard working Luke Ogden netted nine.
Durr’s eight rebounds was the game high, while Stephenson and Ogden each pulled down five. Stephenson also had three steals.
With coach Jerry Olson substituting often, the OPSU speed and athleticism gave fans a very good look at the level of talent on this year’s team.
The Aggies should hit Heartland Conference play at full stride starting in January and they have solid and talented senior leadership with players like Durr, Stephenson and Anderson.
OPSU will be on their home court again on Friday against Angelo State University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
