Goodwell, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State women’s basketball team journeyed north to Hays, Kansas on Friday night to play the once-beaten and very tough squad from Fort Hays State. The Lady Aggies held the lead twice in the first half and trailed just 33-26 at the intermission, but a strong second half performance by the home team gave Fort Hays the 71-50 victory.
A pair of sharp shooting guards, Megan Hamilton and Alisha Sladek, led OPSU with 12 points each. Dependable inside player Nina Kuleff scored eight and pulled down six rebounds to go with five steals and Sarah Polson scored nine.
Hamilton led the Lady Aggies with five assists and Sedra Williams scored four points and snared five rebounds. Val Boothe turned in a good performance with five rebounds, an assist and a block in just 17 minutes of work.
Though he praised the play of Boothe and said he saw some good things overall, OPSU coach Jerry Olson admitted to a bit of frustration at game’s end. “We made some dumb mistakes and we have to get our bench involved,” he added.
With the loss, the Lady Aggie season record dropped to 2-8 and Fort Hays moved to 8-1.
