Lady Aggies Fall 89-68 to Montana-Billings
by Scott Puryear of Aggie Sports on 01-07-06
Goodwell, OK - On Saturday in Billings, the Oklahoma Panhandle
State Lady Aggie basketball team hit the floor with purpose
against a very tough Montana State University-Billings team.
The Lady Aggies went cold from the field in the second half
while their opponents got hot, and MSU-B picked up the 89-68
victory. MSU-B was victorious in Friday’s match-up between
the same two teams (86-52).
The Lady Aggies came out fast and led by seven points midway
through the first half. A furious MSU-B rally got them back
into the game, and they eventually took the lead. An MSU-B
basket at the halftime buzzer gave them a 42-32 advantage as
the teams went to the break.
Not long after the contest resumed, OPSU’s excellent
Taneisha Rogers drilled a three pointer to put the score at
46-37 in favor of MSU-B. However, MSU-B broke things open with
a very quick run to go ahead 57-37 with 16 minutes left to
play.
MSU-B continued to pressure at both ends of the court with
solid offense and tough defense and took their advantage to
74-40 with slightly more than ten minutes left to play in the
contest.
The Lady Aggies worked hard as the game went to conclusion,
despite being behind by over thirty points for part of the
second half. MSU-B (now 8-3 on the season) closed things out
for the 89-68 victory.
OPSU had five players score in double figures with Sarah Furgeson
and Brandi Lewis each scoring 14. April Gahagan, Nina Kuleff
and Rogers all scored ten. Kuleff had eight rebounds to lead
the Lady Aggies and Furgeson, a true freshman, had seven boards.
The OPSU women (now 6-9 for the year) will head to Austin,
Texas next for a Tuesday night game with another Heartland
Conference rival, St. Edward’s University.
