Goodwell, Okla. - It was not their best outing of the season, but the Lady Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State did what they had to in their 60-53 win over Texas A&M International here on Saturday night. The game was the Lady Aggies’ second Heartland Conference matchup in as many days.
The Lady Aggies led by three points at the half (34-31) and the game was largely decided at the free throw line with OPSU scoring 19 and TAMIU converting just ten on the night.
The Lady Aggies came out fast in the second half and went on an 8-2 run, ignited by a nifty behind-the-back pass from Ceara Brown to Jasmine Williams that Williams converted to a bucket.
OPSU led by 11 points in the second half before TAMIU cut the lead to 47-45 at the 5:45 mark. The Aggies responded with a 9-4 run to build a solid 56-49 advantage on a quick jumper by Williams with just over three minutes to play.
Sarah Polson led the OPSU scoring with 14 and Megan Hamilton chipped in 12. Ro Wilson and Williams each dropped in 11.
Wilson’s team high ten rebounds, coupled with her point total, gave her a nice “Double-Double.”
With the win, OPSU upped their season record to 6-7 (1-1 in league play). TAMIU dropped to 5-10 (1-2).
The Lady Aggies will be in action again on January 14 in Jefferson City, Missouri against another Heartland Conference rival – Lincoln University.
