by Scott Puryear of Aggie Sports on 01-19-06
Goodwell, OK - The Lady Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State
maneuvered their way right back into Heartland Conference contention
with a big 64-45 victory over Lincoln on Wednesday night in
Jefferson City, Missouri. OPSU had control for most of the
game and a 31-25 advantage at halftime.
With the victory, the Lady Aggies raised their season record
to 7-10, but more importantly, evened their conference mark
at 2-2. They look to improve their posture within the league
as they head back to Goodwell to play four consecutive conference
games at home.
Lady Aggie head coach Jerry Olson was
pleased with his team’s
overall performance and exceptionally so with the defense.
Olson also cited Bridgett Boykin and Laura Wilson for their
strong contributions coming off the bench.
Brandi Lewis led the way for OPSU with 17 points and the dependable
Nina Kuleff added a dozen. Boykin and Taneisha Rogers each
added ten to the Lady Aggie cause. Wilson and the sure-handed
Sarah Furgeson each had five assists.
As Olson mentioned, it was the OPSU defense that did the job,
holding Lincoln to 29% shooting (to their 41%). Michelle Kennedy,
April Gahagan and Kuleff shared Lady Aggie rebounding honors
with seven each.
The Lady Aggies will play four home games in eight days beginning
this Friday with Western New Mexico. Tip-off is set for 6:00
PM in Oscar Williams Fieldhouse on the OPSU campus.
