Make It Four Straight for the Lady Aggies
by Scott Puryear of Aggie Sports on 01/26/06
Goodwell, OK - A smothering defense did the job for the
Oklahoma Panhandle State women’s basketball team in their
61-49 win over the University of the Incarnate Word here on
Wednesday night. Nina Kuleff and Taneisha Rogers tossed in
a combined 38 points to make it four straight wins for the
Lady Aggies.
The visiting Cardinals led during the
first few minutes of the game, but OPSU’s defensive
strength wore them down. The Lady Aggies had a 34-24 lead
at the intermission.
In the second half, the Cardinals briefly
cut the Lady Aggies’ advantage
to four points, but the home team remained in control and won
61-49.
Kuleff’s 21 points and Rogers’ 17 did most of
the offensive damage for OPSU. Kuleff’s 12 rebounds tied
a game high.
OPSU head coach Jerry Olson felt good
about the Lady Aggies’ strong
defensive effort and noted that his team paid close attention
to the scouting report on the Cardinals. Olson also lauded
the offensive performances of Kuleff and Rogers and complimented
the defensive efforts of Michelle Kennedy and Brandi Lewis.
The Lady Aggies will continue their
home stand on Friday at 6:00 p.m. against St. Mary’s.
