Goodwell, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Panhandle State women’s basketball team geared up in San Antonio on Saturday night for the unenviable task of facing one of the hottest teams in the entire country - St. Mary’s University, winners of 14 consecutive games. St. Mary’s also entered the game in first place in the Heartland Conference and stayed there with their 64-50 win over OPSU.
The talented St. Mary’s team led by just three points (29-26) at halftime, but they turned it on in the second half and went ahead 41-27 with just under 14 minutes left in the game.
Jasmine Williams led the Lady Aggies with 16 points and nine rebounds. Sarah Polson scored ten points, Alisha Sladek was right behind with nine, and Ceara Brown chipped in seven.
Post game, Lady Aggie head coach Brad Vanden Boogaard said his team must do a better job of taking care of the ball and continue to concentrate on the little things.
With the victory, St. Mary’s improved their season record to 16-4 (7-0 in the conference). With the loss, the Lady Aggies fell to 9-10 and 3-4.
The Lady Aggies will be in Odessa, Texas next Thursday to go against UT-Permian Basin in the front half of a women’s/men’s double header. They will then head for Denver for a Saturday game with Johnson & Wales University.
