Goodwell, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Panhandle State women’s basketball team went to Denver, Colorado on Saturday evening and posted a convincing 85-54 victory over Johnson & Wales.
In what OPSU head coach Brad Vanden Boogaard termed as a solid team effort, the Lady Aggies were in control for virtually the entire game, leading 45-25 at the half). With the win, they raised their season record to 11-10.
OPSU’s Jasmine Williams continued her fine inside play as she led all scorers with 27 points. It was the 17th game this season in which the 6’1 junior scored in double figures. In addition, Williams also pulled down nine rebounds.
Vanden Boogaard added that his squad played with both energy and enthusiasm and that many players stepped up and contributed some very good minutes. He also said that several players have once again found their roles and that the members of the team had a good time in the victory.
Sarah Polson added 16 points to the Lady Aggie total and Ceara Brown chipped in 13 points to go along with five assists. Connie Maas, a senior guard, had six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
After the good win, the Lady Aggies headed back to Goodwell, looking forward to four consecutive home games over the next two weeks. The first of those will be on Thursday night (against league leading St. Mary’s) as the front end of a men’s/women’s Heartland Conference double header. The Lady Aggies are set for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
