Lady Aggies Dump Lincoln, 67-52 . . . Playoff Bound!
by Aggie Sports on 02/27/06
Goodwell, Okla. - Though the
Lincoln University women’s
basketball team scored the first three points of the game,
they were never ahead again as Oklahoma Panhandle State picked
up a solid 67-52 win in Oscar Williams Fieldhouse on Friday.
With the win, the Lady Aggies grabbed one of the four slots
in the Heartland Conference tournament, which is set to begin
Wednesday.
The Lady Aggie contest was the first
game of a women’s/men’s
doubleheader, a big part of the OPSU Winter Homecoming. Both
games were free to the public thanks to the sponsorship of
EPIC TOUCH.
Prior to tip-off, OPSU seniors Diana Garduno, Bridgett Boykin,
Brandi Lewis, Michelle Kennedy and Laura Wilson were honored.
Each was presented to the audience and their individual and
collective contributions to the Lady Aggie program were detailed.
The Lady Aggies led by as many as 13 points in the opening
half and went to the break ahead 30-22.
OPSU’s 6’0” center,
Nina Kuleff, had a game high 18 points and 19 rebounds. The
junior from Phoenix, Ariz. is in the top five in scoring
in the conference as well as the leading defensive rebounder
and is a contender for the Heartland Player of the Year.
Taneisha Rogers and Lewis also turned in great games for OPSU
with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Freshman Sarah Furgeson
scored five points and dished out a game high six assists.
Garduno and Wilson each scored seven, and the hardworking Kennedy
scored four.
In their final home appearance of the
season, the Lady Aggie win upped their season record to 14-13,
and their 7-5 conference record qualified them for the conference
playoffs. The first round of the two-round playoffs will
be on Wednesday. The Lady Aggies will head north to play
Montana State-Billings at home. Game time is set for 5:30
p.m. MST (6:30 p.m. CST). The game will be carried live by
KGYN via internet broadcast. Log on to www.opsu.edu and click
