Goodwell, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Panhandle State women’s basketball team continued their march to the Heartland Conference tournament on Thursday night in Laredo with a well balanced 73-59 victory over Texas A&M International. Senior guard Megan Hamilton led the way for OPSU with a fine 26-point performance.

The Lady Aggies, now 15-11 on the season (8-5 in conference play) led 37-30 at the halftime break and maintained control through the majority of the game.

Sarah Polson canned 12 points for OPSU and Connie Maas scored seven points while handing out an outstanding ten assists. The two teams had met earlier in the season (on 1/12) and the Lady Aggies won that one 60-53.

Alisha Sladek and Ceara Brown each scored eight points for OPSU and Jasmine Williams scored six. In rebounds, Sladek led the way with eight, Hamilton pulled down seven, while Polson and Maas both had six.

Post game, Lady Aggie coach Brad Vanden Boogaard said the overall team confidence is strong and they feel they can play with any team in the league.

It’s a great time for the Lady Aggies to have that confidence because they will be in San Antonio on Saturday to match up with the University of the Incarnate Word, a team that beat them 62-56 in Goodwell on January 10.

The Lady Aggies have already qualified for the conference tournament next weekend in Denton, Texas and this hardworking group of student athletes will give it everything they have in the Saturday game against UIW, as well as in the league tournament.
