Wyatt Continues to Forge Ahead with OPSU Football
- by Scott Puryear of OPSU Sports on 02/26/2007
Goodwell, Okla. - Mike Wyatt, Oklahoma Panhandle State University head football coach has been on the job since last December, and the experienced and very organized man has worked diligently to make good things happen. In addition to working closely with returning players, Wyatt has made changes to the entire organizational structure of Aggie football and has concentrated heavily on recruiting.
Wyatt plans to open camp next fall with 120 football players in preparation for the 2007 season, which opens at home on August 25 against Peru State.
Wyatt estimates he will have 70 players for spring drills and has secured commitments from 54 players who will be joining the squad in the fall. Included in the newest additions are two European players, an Oklahoma All-Stater, and an outstanding junior college wide receiver.
Dempsey Tamara, a 6’3”, 238-pound, linebacker from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Tamara was a member of the Dutch National team coached by Niels Meijer, an OPSU alum who played in the NFL-Europe league for the Amsterdam Admirals. Joining Tamara is fellow European, Patrick Klein from Dusseldorf, Germany. Klein a 5’8”, 179 lb., wide receiver, was a member of the German National Team as well as a European All Star selection.
Morrison linebacker, Josh Day, a 6’1”, 215-pounder who was an Oklahoma All State selection and is one of only four players from eight man football to be tapped to play in the Oklahoma All Star game this summer. The versatile player is expected to see action as either a linebacker or fullback at OPSU.
Chris Warder, a 6’2”, 195-pound junior college wide receiver from the College of Sequoias. Warder averaged 12.5 yards a catch for his 7-4 team in last season.
Wyatt said “We are happy with the group of players we have signed, and at this point we are optimistic about the future.”
