Goodwell, OK – A very rugged Minnesota State team
took their home field in Mankato on Thursday night and
raced to a 21-0 first quarter lead on the way to a 63-7
win over Oklahoma Panhandle State.
The Mavericks raised their season record to 1-1 and the
Aggies fell to 0-2.
Perhaps the most exciting play of the game came from the
Aggies when junior linebacker LaKendrick Bevil scooped
up a Minnesota State fumble and raced 76 yards for a touchdown.
Bevil is a 5’11, 215 pound junior from Newton, Texas.
Statistically, the Mavericks out gained the Aggies 436
- 66 in total yards.
Freshman Taner Williams led OPSU in rushing with 30 yards
in ten carries. On defense, Mike Estella and Marcus Dudley
were each in on 11 tackles. Defensive lineman William Hackney
had a quarterback sack.
The Aggies will see their first home action on September
10 in their Homecoming contest with Southern Nazarene.
