Goodwell, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State football team fell to 0-3 on Saturday night with a 49-28 loss to Tabor College. The contest was played on Tabor’s home field in Hillsboro, Kansas.
Tabor jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Aggies at the end of the first quarter and held a 26-8 halftime advantage.
There is not a single bit of “QUIT” in this year’s OPSU team and they fought back to get within four points (26-22) in the early minutes of the fourth quarter. However, Tabor put another 23 points on the board compared to six for the Aggies to close the game at 49-28.
Despite the setback, Aggie head coach Mike Wyatt was pleased with way his Aggies fought to stay in the game all the way.
Brandon Ridgeway gained 68 yards rushing for OPSU on just seven carries and scored twice. Andrew McGlory connected on ten of his 26 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns – one to Byron Smith of 63 yards and the other to Tyler Bennett for four yards.
Three OPSU defensive players drew praise from Wyatt – Matt Warner, Gus Overstreet, and Chase Martin. Warner has been solid all season and Saturday was in on 12 tackles (two of them for losses) and swiped a pass and returned it 48 yards. Overstreet was in on 11 tackles (four of them for losses) and Martin was in on six tackles (two of those for losses).
Tabor upped their record to 1-2 with the win while OPSU fell to 0-3.
The Aggies will be back on their home field next Saturday with a Homecoming clash against Colorado School of Mines (1-3). Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
