Watch Out For Brandon Warner
- by Scott Puryear of Aggie Sports on 9/29/05
Goodwell, OK - It takes about 3.4 miles to catch Oklahoma
Panhandle States’ career total offense record, but
there’s a freshman quarterback who may have begun
that journey.
The “QB” position in college football is a
tough one. In order to be successful, it takes athletic
ability, smarts, and poise – not to mention the respect
of the rest of the team. It’s even more difficult
when one is a freshman, and Warner became the Aggie field
general in a game situation less than a month after donning
an OPSU helmet for the first time.
At 6’1 and 205 pounds, the Kansas native (from Marysville)
has the necessary size and he will probably grow some more
as well. He is well liked among his teammates and when
he steps into the huddle, he takes charge.
Warner is averaging over 100 yards per game in total offense
so far this season in Coach Kyle Davis’ option based
offense. He ran for a season high 155 yards in the Aggie
win over Wayne State and has also shown a strong passing
arm.
It’s going to take over 6,000 yards to be the OPSU
total offense record holder. Football has been termed “a
game of inches” and whether it is by the inch, the
foot or the yard, you might keep an eye out for Brandon
Warner . . . Aggie opponents will.
Warner and the rest of the Aggies will be on the road
this weekend against a good University of Nebraska-Omaha
team. Game time is 1:00 on Saturday afternoon and fans
not making the trip to Omaha can catch all the action live
from KGYN via internet broadcast. Log on to www.opsu.edu
and click on athletics to find the link. Fans may also
listen to the game on PTCI’s DITV channel 150.
