Goodwell, OK- On Saturday night in San Marcos, Texas the
Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies fell to powerful Texas
State, 75-7. Nearly 14,000 were in attendance. Texas State
(now 6-1) went into the game ranked 10th nationally in
NCAA Division I-AA with their only loss coming at the hands
of Division I-A powerhouse Texas A&M (44 31).
The Aggies, who compete in NCAA Division II, saw their
season record drop to 1-7.
David Daniels scored the lone OPSU touchdown on a one
yard plunge that capped a nice 11 play, 80 yard drive against
a very strong defensive team. Daniels led the Aggie runners
with 32 yards on 15 carries. Freshman Gabe Gilmore connected
on four of his six passes for 64 yards and James Stephens
made a pair of catches totaling 40 yards.
On defense, Kendrick Bevil and Clifford Dean were each
in on 14 tackles and Ranoaldo Davis was in on 11.
Despite the loss, OPSU coach Kyle Davis was proud of his
team, saying “We’ve got guys on this team that
don’t give up. We’re not going to back down
against anyone. We’ll get them up and be ready to
go next week."
