Goodwell, Okla. - Ahead 8-7 at the half, the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies were hot on the heels of their first football win of season, but Texas College scored 27 unanswered points for a 34-8 victory in Tyler on Saturday.
The OPSU defense made things very interesting in the first half, and with just under six minutes to play before intermission, fleet Aggie defensive back Mario Wokocha scooped up a fumble and sailed to paydirt from forty yards out. A Gabe Gillmore to Johnnie King two-point conversion pass soon put the Aggies ahead 8-0. However, Texas College came back with their own touchdown and PAT a short time later and the teams went to the break with OPSU holding on to an 8-7 advantage.
Texas College came out for the third quarter and put up four touchdowns to take the score to 34-8, and the fourth quarter was scoreless.
Gillmore was the OPSU passing leader with six completions in 22 tries for 76 yards. Eric Lucero of the Aggies grabbed four passes for 43 yards.
Matt Warner, OPSU linebacker who is one of the national leaders in tackles, had yet another big day with seven solo stops, five assists and one pass break-up. To accompany his touchdown, Wokocha was in on seven tackles.
With the win, Texas College upped their record to 4-5 while the Aggies fell to 0-8. The Aggies will be in Bethany, Oklahoma this coming Saturday to face Southern Nazarene (now 5-3).
