- by OPSU Sports on 11/12/07
Goodwell, Okla. - Eastern New Mexico brought a high powered offense and an opportunistic defense to Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday and defeated the Aggies 52-0.
ENM raised their season record to 5-6 while chalking up 357 yards rushing, scoring twice on punt returns and holding the Aggies to a minus 50 yards on the ground. The visitors were ahead at the half, 38-0.
A pair of OPSU freshman, Chris Manross and Gus Overstreet, came up with huge plays. Manross made a nice grab off a Gabe Gillmore pass and earned a 53-yard gain, while defensive lineman Overstreet spotted a trick ENM play and turned it into a 24-yard tackle for a loss.
Manross was the game’s top receiver with five grabs for 81 yards and teammate Chad Sauceda had 44 yards on a pair of catches. The Aggies earned 201 yards passing and Andrew McGlory connected nine times on 15 attempts for 122 passing yards.
Overstreet was in on a game-high eight tackles and fellow Aggie Matt Warner was in on seven. Warner also forced one fumble with a very hard hit and recovered another. OPSU defenders Antonio Townsend and Ben Lane were credited with six and five tackles, respectively.
