Goodwell, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Panhandle State men’s golf team performed well earlier this week in the Bethany College “Swede” Invitational Tournament in Kansas.
On Monday, they played on the Salina Elks County Club Course and fought their way into third place in the nineteen team field. OPSU’s Chris Herring shot an even par-71 to put him in a tie for second on the first day.
The next day, the Aggies played at the Turkey Creek Golf Club in McPherson. They continued to play well and at the close of the two day tournament they held down a solid sixth place (only four shots out of a third place finish).
In the field of 97 golfers over two 18-hole rounds, a pair of Aggies finished in the top 20 with Herring finished in sixth place (71-78 = 149) and Rob Hamilton finishing 15th (78-73 = 151).
Other OPSU competitors were Bobby Adams (156), Clint Thomas (159) and Samuel Samson (185).
Aggie coach Roger McKinnon was very proud of his student-athletes and the grit they displayed on a pair of very tough courses. McKinnon and his team are looking forward to the rest of the season.
