Cheer Camp Raises Spirits
-released by OPSU Campus Communications 06-20-05
One of the most anticipated and well-attended camps at Oklahoma Panhandle State University every summer is held by the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA). Junior high and high school cheerleaders and mascots gather on campus to learn new cheers, chants, stunts, and team and spirit building skills.
This year, squads from Texhoma, Tyrone, Balko, Shattuck, Keyes/Yarbrough, Guymon, Perryton, Texas, Sunray, Texas, and Springfield, Colorado worked hard in OPSU’s Noble Cultural and Activity Center, and vied for All-American Nominee honors.
In order to compete for All-American nominations, the student athlete must demonstrate mastery of a number of tumbling and stunt skills. Those nominated have the opportunity to try out for the All-American team, and those who make the team are eligible to travel to Hawaii for the annual Hula Bowl All-Star Football Classic and perform during the pre-game or half time show.
Jordan Hale, who will enter the eighth grade in Guymon Junior High School this fall, received Top All-American honors this year. Incidentally, Jordan is the daughter of Christi Hale, OPSU’s Director of Counseling, Career Services, and Testing Center. Listed below are those chosen to receive All-American nominations:
