**For Immediate Release**
BIG Homecoming Week at OPSU!
-by Scott Puryear on 09/02/05
Goodwell, OK – There will be something for everyone
in the coming week at Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
Old friends can meet new friends; there will be great music;
you might get hypnotized; the food and fun will be top
notch; you can enjoy a parade; and you can see some outstanding
young student athletes in action.
It’s Fall Homecoming 2005 at OPSU!
Things will get started on Tuesday night at 7:00 in Hughes-Strong
Auditorium with the performance of the noted hypnotist,
Dr. Bellows. The performance is free to the public.
On Thursday evening as darkness falls, everyone can enjoy
the traditional bonfire which will be in the area between
the football practice field and the baseball/softball complex.
On Friday afternoon in Oscar Williams Field House, the
Lady Aggies will be in their first game of what’s
going to be the exciting OPSU Volleyball Tournament. Under
second year coach Cindy Hughes, the Lady Aggies will play
a good team from Southwestern Oklahoma State starting at
3:00. They will also be in action at 5:00 p.m. against
Friends University. This year’s volleyball team is
made up of some very talented young student-athletes.
On Friday at 7:00 p.m. the award-winning OPSU Cheer Team
will be in charge of the annual Talent Show. Join everyone
in Hughes–Strong Auditorium for a great time as well
as the chance to win any one of several door prizes.
On Saturday, the traditional Homecoming Parade will get
started at 10:30 in the morning. The great group of young
people who make up the OPSU Student Senate will be in charge
of the event and there should be wonderful floats, classy
vehicles, and a good time.
Immediately after the parade in the plaza near the Student
Union, the Panhandle Association of Alumni and Friends
will sponsor their annual free barbeque. Tentative starting
time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
In the field house at 2:00 p.m., Lady Aggie volleyball
action will continue with a match against Midwestern State.
Also on Saturday, the annual Homecoming football game
will get started at 3:00 p.m. against Southern Nazarene.
The Aggies versus the Crimson Storm is becoming one of
the better college football rivalries in the state of Oklahoma.
Three years ago, Southern Nazarene got a one-point victory
and two years ago the Aggies won in triple overtime. Last
season, the Aggies won by a dozen at Southern Nazarene.
It should be a great game.
Fans not able to get to campus for the game can catch
all the action live from KGYN via internet broadcast. Log
on to www.opsu.edu and click on athletics to find the link.
Fans may also listen to the game on PTCI’s DITV channel
150.
At halftime of the game, the Homecoming Royalty will be
crowned and past Aggie All-American football players will
be honored. Those former players are asked to check in
with Scott Puryear in the field house by 1:00 p.m. on game
day.
Later in the evening (from 9:00 – midnight), and
with no admission charge, everyone can enjoy a dance in
the Student Union Ballroom featuring Ken, Tim and the Band
With No Name. The Aggie Grill will be open during the dance.
It should be a great time for students, alumni, sports
fans, and friends of OPSU.
