13 OPSU Student Athletes Honored

Goodwell, Okla. -- Each year, the head coaches of the different Oklahoma Panhandle State University athletic teams honor a young man or woman from each squad as the Student-Athlete of the Year. 13 student-athletes are so honored and the awards are based upon a combination of leadership, citizenship, athletic performance, and academic excellence. Those honored this year are:
QUINTON JONES (Football) - Jones is a fine citizen and a dedicated lineman who has emerged as a true leader on the Aggie football team. He also works hard in the classroom and his work habits carry over into his football activity as he sets an example for the rest of the players to follow. Jones is a sophomore from Seiling, Oklahoma majoring in Nursing.
STEPHEN CLARK (Men’s Cross Country) - Clark is a hard working international student who consistently performed well for the cross country team and is always in excellent physical condition. Clark displays that same work ethic in the classroom and is a very good example of what an OPSU Student-Athlete stands for. Clark is a senior from Ulverston, England majoring in Animal Science.
TRELL ETBAUER (Men’s Rodeo) - Last year’s OPSU Overall Male Student Athlete of the Year, Etbauer has established himself as one of the finest college rodeo competitors in the country. He strongly demonstrates his citizenship, overall work ethic, and leadership in both rodeo and as a student, and will be key to a run at another national title. Etbauer is a senior who hails from Goodwell, Oklahoma and he is finishing his degree in Industrial Technology.
MARQUES LOFTIS (Men’s Basketball) - He is a soft spoken young man who did whatever he was asked to do as a member of the Aggie basketball team. A fine citizen, Loftis goes about his business quietly and has dedicated himself to getting the job done. He will be back in uniform next season and continuing to work hard. Loftis, a junior, comes from Amarillo, Texas and is majoring in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
ROBERT HAMILTON (Men’s Golf) - One of the most well liked students on the OPSU campus, Hamilton is another international student who has been performing with distinction in his athletic event as well as in the classroom. He is a leader by nature and has pushed himself in both the classroom as well as on the golf course. Hamilton, a junior, is from Canberra, Australia and he is majoring in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
KYLE CREMERS (Baseball) - The best pitcher on the OPSU baseball team over the last two years, Cremers is a fierce competitor with a very good work ethic both on and off the field. He is also a leader by example because of that strong work ethic. Cremers comes from Ponca City, Oklahoma and is majoring in Industrial Technology. He is a senior.
JONI BOLEN (Women’s Cross Country) - Bolen is a very hard worker in the classroom, on the cross country team, and in her duties as a student trainer for the OPSU athletic teams. She is also known as one of the friendliest people on the school campus. Bolen is majoring in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. She is a senior from Sharon Springs, Kansas.
JORDAN MUNCY (Women’s Rodeo) - A dedicated and well liked student athlete, Muncy has displayed work and leadership skills as an underclassman that will lead her to continuing success as both a rodeo performer and student. She is an integral part of the rodeo team that should make a big run this season. Just a freshman, Muncy is a native of Corona, New Mexico and is pursuing a major in Equine Science.
CONNIE MAAS (Women’s Basketball) - One of the few OPSU athletes in recent years to have been a top performer in two sports (basketball and softball). Maas is also a dedicated and determined person who has also been honored as an Academic All-American for success in her coursework. She is a leader on the court, the field and in the classroom. Mass is a senior majoring in biology. She comes from Sabetha, Kansas.
KRYSTAL COMEAUX (Softball) - Comeaux is a four-year starter for the Lady Aggies and an excellent athlete and exceptional student. An Academic All-American, she is a fine role model for the younger players with her solid work ethic (both in the classroom and on the field). Comeaux, a senior from Bay City, Texas, is majoring in Mathematics.
ALISA BYERS (Women’s Golf) - Byers is consistently one of the lowest scorers on the Lady Aggie golf team and one of the most popular student athletes around the campus. She is also a very hard worker in the classroom. Byers is majoring in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation and comes from Guymon, Oklahoma.
KATHRYN SHEPHERD (Cheer Team) - Shepherd is involved in her community as a volunteer firefighter and is the leader of the Cheer Team both by example and as captain. She is an exceptional athlete, a top student, and a fine example of what an OPSU Student Athlete is all about. Shepherd is a sophomore majoring in Chemistry who comes from Choctaw, Oklahoma.
STORMY SMITH (Volleyball) - Smith is an on-court leader for the Lady Aggie volleyball team. She is also a very well liked person around the campus and a hard worker – both on the court and in the classroom. Smith is a junior majoring in Business who comes from Paris, Texas.
