-released by OPSU Campus Communications 06-18-05

Following the completion of the third round of action at the College National Finals Rodeo last night, five Oklahoma Panhandle State University team members will compete in the championship round tonight.

Erica Brown, an OPSU senior from Pocatello, Idaho, sits seventh in the average of the breakaway roping with a combined time of 9.2 seconds in three rounds. Teammate Stacey Watland took third in the third round of the goat tying, and goes into tonight’s round in 11th place in the average. This Poulsbo, Washington native, also a senior, has posted a total of 22.7 seconds in that event.

In other timed events, Trell Etbauer, a freshman from Goodwell, is first place in the average in the steer wrestling with a total of 17.1 seconds in the first three rounds. Buster Holland will also compete in the short round of that event. The junior from Sublette, Kansas currently sits 9th in the average.

The only rough stock competitor from OPSU in the short round is Dusty Hausauer, a senior from Dickinson, North Dakota. He placed first in the third round with a 78.5 point ride, and sits fifth in the average with a combined score of 217.5.

The OPSU men’s team currently sits 13th overall, with Tarleton State University in first place, holding over twice as many points as the second place team. Watland and Brown have earned enough points to put the OPSU women’s team in 19th place.
