Goodwell, Okla.- Oklahoma Panhandle
State University’s
men’s rodeo team tied for first place in Weatherford,
Okla. over the weekend at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University
rodeo. The men split the honor with Southeastern Oklahoma State
University, and OPSU continues to hold second place in the
Central Plains Region standings of the National Intercollegiate
Rodeo Association.
In the saddle bronc riding, Taos Muncy, Jordan Furnish, and
Trell Etbauer placed third, fourth and fifth respectively in
the long round. Of the three, Etbauer scored a 74 point ride
in the championship round in which there were only three qualified
rides. That put him second in the go and second in the aggregate
scoring. Weston Ireland also made the short go in that event.
The bareback riding was competitive with
12 cowboys making the final round. OPSU’s Logan Hodson
placed second in the long round, tied for seventh in the
short go, and tied for fifth in the average. Taos Muncy also
made the championship round, but did not make a qualified
ride.
Tyrel Turner split second in the championship round of the
steer wrestling and placed fourth in the average. Etbauer placed
fifth in the average of that event. In the tie-down roping,
Chance Hays placed fifth in the long round, and team ropers
Andrew Cowan and Muncy made the championship round.
On the women’s team, Chancy Harrington
made the short go where she placed third, and she placed
fourth in the aggregate scoring.
The team has a week off to prepare for the Fort Hays State
Rodeo at Fort Hays, Kan. which will be held April 21-23. The
final spring rodeo in Durant, Okla., at Southeastern State
is planned for April 27-29, and College National Finals Rodeo
(CNFR) qualifiers will be announced following that event. Watch
for the OPSU Rodeo Team to carry on their winning tradition
at CNFR in Casper, Wyo., in June!
