Goodwell, OK – Oklahoma Panhandle State University’s
rodeo team continued its winning tradition this weekend at
the Central Plains Region National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s
competition in Miami, Oklahoma at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
Taos Muncy’s performance in the calf roping and bareback
competitions added team points and helped place the men’s
team second overall. Those points also won Muncy the All-Around
Cowboy spot.
In the first round of the calf roping, Muncy split first and
second, and went on to win fourth in the average of the event.
In the bareback, Muncy again won first in the long go, placed
fourth in the short round, and won first in the average. OPSU
cowboy Brian Leddy also made the short round of the bareback.
The men’s team was well-represented
in the short round of the saddle bronc riding. Weston Ireland
took second in the first round, and won the average in that
event. Trell Etbauer made the short go, and split fourth,
fifth, and sixth in the average. Jordan Furnish also made
the short round of the saddle bronc. Ryan Leeds made the
short go of the bull riding.
Team ropers Levi Swafford and Eli Eastman placed second in
the long go, sixth in the short go, and took 5th in the average.
Steer wrestler Tyrel Turner turned in a five flat in the first
go of that event, but it was only quick enough for seventh
in the round. He turned in a 13.9 in the short round, and ended
up ninth in the average.
On the women’s side, Chancy Etbauer
took fourth in the short go of the breakaway roping, and
placed fifth in the average. Chancy also made the short go
of the goat tying.
With one fall rodeo remaining, the team plans to be ready
for the upcoming spring season. The team will be in Alva, OK
at the Northwestern Oklahoma State University rodeo October
27-29.
