NIRA Announces Honors

Goodwell, OK - The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association
in Walla Walla, Washington, recently announced the 2005 Academic
All-American recipients. Two Oklahoma Panhandle State University
students met the criteria for the honor which includes qualifying
for the 2005 College National Finals Rodeo and maintaining
a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
Poulsbo, Wash. native Stacey Watland
will graduate this May with a bachelor’s degree in
biological science and plans to go on to graduate school.
Watland won 6th in the goat tying in the short round of the
CNFR in June and placed seventh in the average.
Trell Etbauer, of Goodwell, Okla., is an OPSU sophomore this
year and plans to graduate with a business administration degree
in accounting. As a freshman at the 2005 CNFR, Etbauer split
first in the average of the steer wrestling and also qualified
for CNFR in the saddle bronc riding.
Besides practicing for and competing in college rodeo, both
of these fine student athletes have also used their time to
maintain good grades, work, and help raise funds for the team.
