OPSU Softball Goes 1-3 vs. Fort Hays State

Goodwell, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Panhandle State University softball team was in Hays, Kansas on Friday and Saturday for a pair of double headers with Fort Hays State. In game two on Friday, the Lady Aggies came through with a big 12-1 victory.

Fort Hays 7, LADY AGGIES 1
In Friday’s opening game of the four game set, OPSU scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning. Lezlie Lumbreras had a pair of hits, including a triple, while Crystal Comeaux, Cathy Daza, Amber Hamby and Stacia States also had hits for OPSU. Comeaux had the lone OPSU run batted in.

LADY AGGIES 12, Fort Hays 1
In Friday’s second game, there were plenty of fireworks from the OPSU bats and a fine pitching performance from OPSU’s Denise Degenhardt. The Lady Aggies also played errorless ball in the victory.

Over five innings, Degenhardt scattered four hits, walked four and gave up just the single run.

Hamby had three hits for OPSU, including a pair of doubles and an RBI. Lumbreras also had three hits (one a double) and had two RBIs. Other Lady Aggies swinging big bats included Daza (two for four with an RBI) and Comeaux with three runs batted in.

Fort Hays State 8, OPSU 0
In the first of the two games on Saturday, the Lady Aggies got just two hits – a single and a double by Hamby.

In the final game on Saturday, Degenhardt had two hits in two tries while Daza, Lumbreras, Comeaux, and Kayla Joos each had one hit.

At the conclusion of the four game set, the Lady Aggie season record stood 2-15. Fort Hays’ season record is now 14-9.
