Goodwell, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State softball team was in Odessa, Texas on Saturday for a double header with the University of Texas-Permian Basin. Whether hitting, pitching, or fielding – the Lady Aggies were dominant, winning the two games by a combined score of 19-2.
LADY AGGIES 10, UT-PB 1
In the first game, OPSU showed plenty of firepower in their 10-1 victory. The Lady Aggies jumped out with six runs in the top of the third inning and four more in the fifth for the victory. Their opponents scored only one run, thanks to great defense and just five hits given up by winning pitcher Teena Joos.
Roxie Palacios led the way for OPSU at the plate with three hits (one a double) and a pair of RBIs. Stacy Harbour also drove in two with a pair of hits (one a double). Other Lady Aggies driving in runs were Krystal Comeaux, Antonia Ramirez, and Jo Palacios. Courtney Harris also had two hits, and Alyssa Murphy smacked a double.
It was Joos’ first win of the season and the junior from Sunnyvale, California did a nice job – giving up just the single run and walking only one batter.
LADY AGGIES 9, UT-PB 1
OPSU shortstop Alyssa Murphy slammed a triple and a homer and drove in four runs as the Lady Aggies hammered out their second impressive win of the day – 9-1. Pitcher Rachael Hughes was equally convincing, striking out eight and giving up just one hit in a complete game win.
The game was close after four innings, with the Lady Aggies holding just a 1-0 edge, but they scored three times in the fifth and added five more in the sixth.
Cathy Daza and Stacy Harbour smacked doubles for the Lady Aggies, and both had two hits in three trips to the plate and each drove in a run. Roxie Palacios and Krystal Comeaux also plated RBIs for OPSU.
Hughes was dominant in her first win of the season and the senior from Topeka, Kansas walked just one batter over six innings.
