Lady Aggies Sweep Another Double Header
- by Scott Puryear of OPSU Sports on 03/12/2007
Goodwell, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State softball team swept the University of Texas-Permian Basin in a doubleheader last Saturday. After taking Sunday off due to the rainy conditions in Odessa, the Lady Aggies came back on Monday and won two more games from UT-PB. OPSU connected for a total of seven home runs in the two Monday victories.
LADY AGGIES 7, UT-PB 6
In the first game of Monday’s doubleheader, the Lady Aggies slammed five homers as they edged the University of Texas-Permian Basin – 7-6. Cathy Daza, Denise Degenhardt, Courtney Harris, Teena Joos, and Stacey Harbour all smacked round trippers for OPSU.
Joos pitched all but the final inning for her second win in three days, and Rachael Hughes finished it up with her first save of the year, retiring all three batters she faced.
UT-PB jumped out to a 3-0 lead after just one inning of play, but the Lady Aggies were determined for a win and they got it.
Degenhardt and Harris had a pair of RBIs with two hits, and Daza also had two hits. Jo Palacios also drove in a run, and the five homers in one game was a team high since OPSU joined the Heartland Conference five years ago.
LADY AGGIES 4, UT-PB 1
OPSU’s Rachael Hughes pitched a complete game three-hitter, and slammed a two run homer as the Lady Aggies picked up their second win of the day – 4-1. Second baseman Cathy Daza also smacked her second home run in as many games.
Hughes didn’t give the opposing team much of a chance with her fine pitching performance, and she walked only one batter. It was her second win in three days.
In addition to the power hitting over the two Monday games, OPSU made just one error.
The Lady Aggies left Odessa immediately after the game for the trip back home to Goodwell, and they’ll play two more big Heartland Conference double headers on Saturday and Sunday against Montana State-Billings.
