Goodwell, OK – The Oklahoma
Panhandle State volleyball team opened their season last
weekend in Lakewood, Colorado in the Mile High Classic
hosted by Colorado Christian University. It was a tough
field and Lady Aggie coach Cindy Hughes was proud of
the Lady Aggie effort.
On Friday morning, OPSU played Chadron State and lost
three games (19-30; 21-30; and 20-30). Later that day,
they played a very tough Central Oklahoma squad and also
lost three (15-30; 10-30 and 22-30).
On Saturday, the Lady Aggies faced two more good teams
(New Mexico Highlands and Colorado Christian).
In their first match, they lost three to NM Highlands
(10-30; 18-30 and 13-30).
In their final match, they showed great determination
and very nearly came up with the first victory of the season.
They won the first two games by identical 30-28 scores,
but lost their next two (24-30 and 23-30). In the rubber
game for the match victory, they lost 9-15.
Hughes added that she was pleased
with the team performance and said the Lady Aggies showed
some very good hustle. The second year coach noted strong
performances by Kirbi Twilligear, Lacy Jones and Val
Armstrong. Twilligear was last season’s OPSU Volleyball
Student Athlete of the Year.
