Lady Aggies Open Volleyball Season

Goodwell, OK — The Oklahoma Panhandle State University
volleyball team opened their season Saturday in Oklahoma
City. Though the Lady Aggies dropped both of their matches,
first year coach Eric Viney was not disappointed in the
performance of his young team.
Bacone College 3 Lady Aggies 0
Bacone won the match 30-22, 30-15, and 30-22, but the
contest was not without several Lady Aggie highlights.
Cat Clay is just one of the OPSU players who played
well, and the freshman recorded 10 kills and 8 digs.
Molly Woodhall had 8 kills, Val Armstrong had 7 kills,
and Amber McKinney recorded 6 kills and 2 blocks.
In the assist department, Misty Sims had a dozen and
Cheryl Coldwell had 11.
An outstanding OPSU junior, Sarah Moran, led both
tams with 16 digs.

The Lady Aggies played well in a tight match, losing
30-25, 30-22, and 34-32, and Clay recorded her
first college “double-double” with
11 kills and 11 digs. Woodhall, a hardworking senior, was
right behind with 9 kills and 9 digs.
Alisa Byers had 5 kills and McKinney had 8 kills. Coldwell
had 14 assists, and Moran, quickly establishing herself
as a top defensive player, had 20 digs.
After the matches, Viney said he was pleased with
the team and their overall performance during
their first outings against outside competition.
The next action for the Lady Aggies will be on
the road against Eastern New Mexico on Tuesday.
