A Great Night of Volleyball at OPSU

Goodwell, Okla. — Nearly 300 people had a very good time in the Oklahoma Panhandle State University gym on Wednesday as they watched the Lady Aggie volleyball team pick up a 3-0 win over Wayland Baptist University.
OPSU fought their way to three exciting 30-28 wins and did so with a great team effort and solid determination that never wavered. It was the first home match of the season for the Lady Aggies who had played ten outings on the road. It was also the first home court victory for Eric Viney, in his initial year as head coach.
Hard working OPSU senior Val Armstrong led both teams with 15 kills. Armstrong is also an excellent student and works hard in the classroom - something Viney insists upon from his players.
Catherine “Cat” Clay, just a freshman, had had a nice “double-double” with 12 kills and shared defensive honors with teammate Sarah Moran, as each had 18 digs.
Lady Aggie senior Molly Woodhall, another very hard worker, had eight kills and 12 digs.
After the game, Viney said he liked the spirit his team displayed and was pleased they put on a good show for the enthusiastic crowd.
Of the many fans and OPSU students who enjoyed the evening, perhaps the most fun was had by the “Volley Dawgs” a group of OPSU students reminiscent of the “Cheese Heads” who are part of the Green Bay Packer tradition.
It was a great night for OPSU volleyball, the fans, and the Volley Dawgs. This year’s Lady Aggies are an exciting team to watch, and play their home games in an atmosphere that is quite enjoyable. Their next home outing is on September 19 against Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
