Lady Aggie Volleyball Drops a Pair to Montana-Billings
- by Scott Puryear of Aggie Sports on 10/5/05
Goodwell, OK - The Lady Aggies from Oklahoma Panhandle
State University faced a very good Montana-Billings team
on both Monday and Tuesday, losing 3-0 on both nights.
All matches were in Oscar Williams Fieldhouse on the OPSU
campus.
On Monday, the M-B Yellowjackets jumped out to wins in
the first two games, 30-13 and 30-16. Most of the damage
was done by a pair of excellent M-B players, Jessica Bratton
and Alicia Cazemeir.
In the third game, the Lady Aggies challenged for the
win and the game was tied at 11, 14, and 17 points before
M-B prevailed 30-24.
For the Lady Aggies, both Kirbi Twilligear and Molly Woodhall
played well defensively, and Lacy Jones and Val Armstrong
made good showings offensively.
On Tuesday, the same teams faced off and M-B won the first
game (30-11) and the second 30-14. The Lady Aggies displayed
great determination at the start of the third game and
jumped out to an early 4-2 lead, and not long after, held
a 10-5 advantage.
OPSU showed some great hustle (especially by Katie Denning).
OPSU worked hard to hold the lead and had it at 14-12,
but the hardworking Jones (a 5’9 junior) left with
an apparent thigh injury. However, it was not long before
Jones (a tough kid) was back on the floor and the Lady
Aggies went up 18-16.
Both teams continued to play hard and the experienced
Yellowjackets came back to tie the score at 20-20. M-B
took a brief lead at 22-20, but the Lady Aggies fought
back and tied the score at 23-23. However, the height of
M-B proved to be too much as they went on a solid run to
take the game 30-24 and the match (3-0).
The next home action for OPSU will be October 11 against
Southwestern Oklahoma State.
