Goodwell, OK - Tuesday night, an enthusiastic crowd was on hand in Oscar
Williams Fieldhouse on the Oklahoma Panhandle State campus for some exciting
college volleyball between the Lady Aggies and Wayland Baptist University. The
teams had met just two weeks earlier when Wayland picked up a hard fought 3-1
win.
After OPSU student-athlete April Gahagan led the crowd in an enthusiastic rendition
of the National Anthem, the teams took the court, and each was determined to
get the victory.
In the first game of the match, both teams played well, especially Wayland’s
Alicia
Estrada and Mary Grace Moore. On the OPSU side of the net, Molly Woodhall,
Lacy Jones and Val Armstrong were among the Lady Aggies who worked hard to keep
OPSU in the game. Wayland eventually won it, 30-15.
In game two, Moore continued to lead a tough assault on the net, and though the
Lady Aggies continued to fight to stay in it, Wayland picked up the victory,
30-20.
Game three was the closest of the match, and the Lady Aggies played well the
entire way. OPSU scored six straight points to narrow Wayland’s lead
to 26-22, and a spike by Jones soon narrowed the score to 26-24. However,
Wayland Baptist closed fast and finished with a 30-24 game win and the 3-0 match
victory.
