Job Summary:

The Equestrian Coach is responsible for assisting in the development and overall policy of the assigned division of the OPSU Equestrian Program. The Equestrian Coach must care for equine animals and take full responsibility for their well-being. The Equestrian Coach must instruct team members to improved individual riding skills, participation, and animal care associated with team practices and activities.

Responsibilities:

• Must actively scout and recruit prospective student-athletes
• Knowledge of IHSA rules and regulations
• Organize yearly competition schedules
• Organize all details of home and away meets/competitions, including team travel
• Maintaining accurate documentation on all riders and keeping up with their academic progress, as well as handling athletic compliance
• Manage the equine facilities, including the maintenance and upkeep of the Equine facilities
• Feed, and care for the equine animals
• Coordinate fund-raising events to develop community support
• Keep accurate records and promptly submits all requested materials to appropriate administration
• Follow a departmental operations budget and OPSU financial procedures
• Support departmental programs including meetings, trainings, program reviews, etc.
• Strong organizational, management, and interpersonal skills are necessary
• Strong communication skills demonstrating the candidate to be a positive motivator
• Must be able to lift more than 50-lb. objects; frequent bending, stooping, and walking
• Can be exposed to a variety of weather conditions for periods of time
• Ability to communicate in a courteous manner
• Be able to transport team to the contests, and be responsible for their well-being
• Other duties as assigned by Dean of College of Agriculture, Science, and Nursing or designee

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of Equestrian practices
• Knowledge of animal care


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in Ag Science, Equine Science or Ag related field required, Master’s degree preferred, plus minimum of four (4) years of experience as an athlete or coach.
• Collegiate equine knowledge and experience required.
• Proven equine management experience and an in-depth understanding of the assigned discipline
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted
