Responsibilities:

This is a part-time job for 5-6 hours a day during peak hours of 9-3:30. No more than 29 hours a week. This employee will be providing support to the overall operations of the lab. They will be performing business and/or lab duties, depending on skills and interests. Must be dependable, punctual, and an
independent worker. Must be a flexible team member with an ability to prioritize.

General responsibilities: Comply with safety requirements and good laboratory practices as required and guided by OPSU, ODEQ, TNI, EPA, OSHA and the laboratory Director and
Supervisor; Comply with all OPSU policies; and Comply with laboratory QA Manual,
including the ethics policy.

Business operations: Perform general office operations such as ordering and receiving supplies, answering phones, filing documentation as directed, sending/receiving mail, etc.; Maintain courtesy and good attitude of service toward customers and visitors; Operate and maintain laboratory receiving room; Maintain communications with customers about their required sampling schedules and send prepared sampling kits as needed and requested; Use the laboratory Quick Books accounting system as needed to generate customer invoices; Coordinate with OPSU accounting for customer receipt of payments, requisitions and PO’s; Develop and maintain working knowledge of the following software as used in the laboratory operations: LIMS (LabLite), Microsoft office suite, Quick Books, and OK Corral.

Laboratory operations: Maintain appropriate knowledge of test methods as needed for communication with customers; Receive, log-in and label samples into laboratory operation using LIMS; Maintain log books and computer files as directed; Enter data into LIMS, Excel spreadsheets and other systems for in-process and completed samples as needed; Potentially learn and exercise certain lab responsibilities, such reading temperatures and running Bac-T tests; Maintain knowledge of hazard issues with chemicals and samples, especially per MSDS’s; Maintain personal and general laboratory safety; Properly dispose of waste materials as needed.

Qualifications:

Must have excellent communication skills; High school degree or higher (preferably
associates degree or higher, with experience in laboratory or medical technician or similar
field); Demonstrated ability to learn and operate spreadsheets, databases, e-mail and other
computer software; Skills of organization, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and following
instructions; Demonstrated ability with basic math skills; Must be able to actively work on
assigned duties, complete work, achieve goals, and participate in teamwork with minimum
supervision; Must be able to lift more than 50-lb. objects; frequent bending, stooping, and
walking; Spanish-speaking preferred.
