Course
Description: This course will cover biology from a global perspective, focusing on issues affecting an international society. The class includes themes relevant to contemporary discussion. Bioethics, biotechnology, emerging infectious disease, bioterroism, biology of aging, genomics, biology related to environmental issues, biology of cancer, HIV/AIDS and pharmaccogenetics are some of the subjects relevant to our culture. Four of these topics will be covered in this class. The course structure will remain the same while the topics list is fluid, changing as new discoveries are made and old theories are expanded or replaced. Discussions and assisgnments are designed to integrate readings of current biology literature with written presentations. |
