The center provides institutional course placement testing , extra-institutional learning testing , and national testing programs.
Institutional Course Placement Testing
Accuplacer (CPTs)
New students referred to the Counseling Center for placement tests will be given the Accuplacer CPTs (computer placement tests). OPSU administers the reading, sentence skills, and elementary algebra tests for placement. Students must have a Testing Referral Form from the Office of Admissions specifying which test(s) are needed for placement. Students may test on a walk-in basis between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. If a student wants to retake a CPT in a specific area, there will be a $5 charge.

Extra-Institutional Learning Testing
College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
Students may receive CLEP credit
by passing selected Subject Examinations with the grade equivalent
of "C". Credit will be placed on the student's transcript when
twelve resident hours have been completed successfully. The number
of hours allowed is dependent on the requirements of the department
in which the student majors, the certification sought, and the
residence requirements of the University. All extra-institutional
credits reflect a grade of "P" and no record is kept of unsuccessful
attempts. The tests are given by appointment. The current
fee per CLEP test is $55 and checks should be made payable to
CLEP. An additional $15 institutional fee is required at the
time the appointment is made.
