Southeastern is linked by tradition to the geographic region of southeastern Oklahoma and north Central Texas. It is 15 miles from the Oklahoma-Texas border, 90 miles north of Dallas; 160 miles southeast of Oklahoma City, and 15 miles east of Lake Texoma. The original purpose of Southeastern Oklahoma State University was the education of teachers; and while the purpose of the institution has expanded, the major emphasis continues to be quality undergraduate education. In addition, the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences offers a Masters Degree in Education and a Masters of Behavioral Studies.
A unique feature of Southeastern’s teacher education program is the Professional MENTORING Program. Teachers from surrounding schools are trained as Professional Mentors and are responsible for supervising our student teachers. A Coordinator oversees the program and faculty are readily available to assist, but the Professional Mentors are the primary supervisors in our teacher training program.
